Димитрия Ростовского в 1768 г. (Ригельман, 1918), на месте которой был основан город Ростов-на-Дону. Затем на протяжении длительного времени авифауна Донского края оставалась за пределами интересов орнитологов. Публикаций, где бы приводились описания местных видов птиц было очень мало (Сарандинаки, 1909; Алфераки, 1910; Варшавский, 1932; Лерхе, 1940).
