seen th a t its growth begins from a dense wavy crust. In further growth such dense crusts alternate with more porous layers. The distance between these dense layers varies from 0,25 to 0,5 mm. The layers are almost strictly parallel preserving thro ughout the whole th in section the same waviness as on the basal crust. Collenia kusarandica n. sp. (Tab. IV, fig. 1, 2, 3). Forms wavy srusts, below tubercular (tubercles of a diameter of 5—6 mm, height 3 mm), and them becomes more thin-layered and almost straight. W ith in the limits of the tubercles the distance between the layers is from 1— 1,5 mm and higher in places may be seen where the distance is up to 0,5 mm. In a th in section one can see how the dense (darker) layers alternate with the more porous ones and the layers form a very fine frilling with symmetrical round swelling pointed up (the dimensions of these swellings are about 0,75 mm in dia meter and 0,1 mm in height). Weedia ? sp. (Tab. IV, fig. 4). Impossible to deteremine the species they are lamellar organisms of small irre gular cupola-conicular form (diameter to 5 cm, height to 3 cm). They are poorly preserved specimens; macroscopically in section of these cones a rough wavy lamel- ler structure may be seen which goes parallel to the outlines of the cones. Nostocites ? sp. (Tab. V, fig. 1) Accumulations of small balls from 0,5 to 1,2 mm in diameter. The balls consist of a very fine-grained carbonate. No concentric or shell-like structure can be seen. The outer layer and central zone differ only in colour w ithout any sharp bound aries between them. Basing on the experiments of Bradley [ 3 J, the origin of such balls is possible to refer to the deposition of carbonate by colonies of Schizophy'ceae which is very near to the modern form Nostoc. The diameter of the cell from 0,5 to 1 mm forms an irregular spiral. The aperture is a simple one in the form of a pore. Shells have been found only in th in sections in an intensely m e ta morphosed rock therefore the supposition itself th a t here we have shells of foramini- fers may be placed under doubt. In the end the writer makes the following conclusions: 1) The above described forms have the greatest sim ilarity to Schizophyceae developed in the Precambrian of North America and Siberia. 2) The age of the Preonegan carbonate rocks as yet is determined as Precam brian. 3) The presence of these organic remains in certain horizons of Preonegan car bonate deposits may serve as a good-marking feature for establishing local s tra ti graphy. 22
