Основной район исследований Баренцево море - крупный рыбопромысловый бассейн на Севере России. В л аб о р ат о ри и р а б о т а ю т высоко квалифицированные кадры, обладающие опы т о м ихтиологических исследований, к о т о р ы е направлены на решение ф унд ам ен та л ьных и научно-прикладных проблем: и с с л е д о в а н и е э к о л о г о -ф и з и о л о г и ч е с к и х за кон ом ерн о с тей а д ап т ац и й морских рыб, их направлений и механизмов формирования; - изучение миграционного и пищевого поведения рыб, нейрогуморальные регуляции висцеральных функций, б и о т е с т и р о в а н и е к а ч е с т в а морской среды; оценка современного с о с т о я н и я популяций промысловых рыб прибрежной зоны Кольского полуострова. Помимо классической ихтиологии вы п о л н я е т с я широкий с п е к т р э к сп ерим ен тальных р а б о т . С 1992 года л а б о р а т о р и я у ч а с т в у е т в международных и сс л ед овательских п р о е к т а х по экологической физиологии проходных и морских рыб, а в 1996 году н а ч а т ы р а б о т ы по р а з р а б о т к е э к сп ерим ен тальной комп ью терной с и с т е м ы м о н и т о р и н г а рыбных ресурсов Баренцева моря. Laboratory of ichthyology Chief - Karamushko Oleg V. Candidate of Science (Biology) it is one of the oldest laboratories in the Institute that was established in 1953. It develops successfully ichthyological investiga-tions of the MMBI in the West-Arctic region. The main region of the investigations is the Barents Sea - a large fishery basin in the North of Russia. Specialists of very high quality who are very experienced in the ichthyological investigations work in the laboratory. The laboratory studies are oriented for solving fundamental and applied problems: - investigations of the ecological and physiological regularities of the marine fish species adaptations, their directions and mechanisms of the formation; - investigations of the migration and feeding behaviour of fishes, nervous-hormones regulation of the visceral function, monitoring of the fish fauna state, biotesting of the marine environment quality; - estimation of the modern state of commercial fish species populations in the coastal zone of the Kola Peninsula. Members of the laboratory take part in the yearly marine and coastal expeditions, that allows them to work always with actual material. Besides classical ichthyology, the specialists of the laboratory carry out a wide range of the experimental works. Since 1992 the members of the laboratory take part in the international scientific projects concerning ecological physiology of migratory and marine fish species, and in 1996 the works for development of the experimental computer monitoring system of the fish resources in the Barents Sea were started.
