They are highly qualified specialists with a good scientific training, experience in carrying out biological investigations. They constitute the main scientific potential of the MMBI. Ежегодно л а б о р а т о ри я вы п о л н я е т несколько морских экспедиций в Белое, Баренцево, Карское моря, ч т о п о з в о л я е т и м е т ь данные о современном с о с т о я н и и б е н т о с а . В л а б о р а т о р и и сформировались т р и основных научных направления: изучение видового с о с т а в а и распределения донных беспозвоночных; исследование с т р у к т у р ы и с о с т о я н и я с о о б щ е с т в б е н т о с ны х организмов; п оп у л яци онн ая биология м а с с о вы х и х о з я й с т в е н н о иенных донных беспозвоночных. По каждому из них р а б о т а е т несколько сп еци али с то в , о с у щ е с т в л я е т с я международная кооперация в рамках с о в м е с т ны х программ, п р о е к т о в и г р а н т о в . The laboratory of benthos is one of the oldest at the Institute. It was organized at the end of 50-s after the reorganization of the Murmansk biological station into the Institute. Every year the laboratory conducts several marine expeditions to the Barents, the White, the Kara seas which allows it to analyse the fresh actual material. Three main directions are formed in the laboratory, these are: - investigations of the species composition and the distribution of the bottom invertebrates; - investigations of the structure and the state of the benthos organisms communities; - population biology of the mass and economically valuable bottom invertebrates. Several specialists work in every branch. The international co-operation in the frames of the international grants, programmes, projects is also carried out in the laboratory.
