The cultural centre Sajos is the home of many Sami players with which the Crossing Library networks: the Sami Parliament, the Sami Archives, the Children's Cultural Centre, the Sami Music Centre, a bookstore, the Education Material Office, and the Sami Eduction Institute. The Sami Archives is run as part of the Finnish National Archives, and it obtains and accepts Sami archival material. Other players located in Inari include the Sami Radio and the Sami Museum Siida. The Sami Special Library has, together with the Crossing Library, enhanced remote access. Lectures on Sami issues have been arranged jointly by the Lapland Department of Rovaniemi Library and the Sami Research of the University of Lapland; these lectures have been distributed throughout the Sami Area. The weekly lessons in the Sami language carried out by the Special Library are also available throughout the Sami Area. People have remote access to these lectures and language lessons in either libraries or other suitable premises. Through the joint media platform of the libraries, the lectures are available for online viewing for a week after they were originally given. Remote connections work both ways: from the central location to the sparsely-populated area and from the tundra to the city. It is also worth mentioning that these remote access facilities make people gather to one place; thus, information technology also brings people together and does not only separate them so that they sit alone by their own computers. Next year, we aim to carry out a cooperation project on the control and obtaining of audiovisual material and new recording forms. The project will also analyse copyright issues dealing with recordings. The idea is that libraries will compile a common CD/DVD collection of recordings, documentaries and feature films that deal with Sami issues and are considered important by the libraries. The activities of the Crossing Library consist of Sami library work done in Sami by Sami. Like the Sami Special Library, 108
