international bibliography cooperation and works together with the National Library in issues concerning material that is published in Sami in Finland. The Crossing Library, Jutaava kirjasto, is a new, Sami form of library work in the Sami Area. The planning phase lasted for a few years, and the activities were launched in the spring of 2012. The employee of the Crossing Library is a Sami-speaking cultural producer, who does not have to have training in the field of library. The project has built networks with Sami libraries and players in the Sami Area and cooperates with the Sami Special Library. It is the task of the Sami Special Library to maintain and develop the Sami collection and the communications, information services and content production linked with this collection, while the Crossing Library is meant to plan and carry out new, Sami methods and forms of operation in the Sami language in the sphere of the library together with the public libraries of the Sami Area. As concerns promoting the Sami language and culture, the Special Library participates in this new type of library work and provides, in return, the Sami Area with its collection services. The Crossing Library has forwarded and made Sami traditions visible. In a short time, the Crossing Library has arranged a tour called "The Singing Library" and an extensive exhibition on Sami music. It has brought Sami authors to villages in the library bus, having them tell about their production and lives during the visits. It has held fairy-tale, storytelling and game hours in the Sami language. So far, the events have mostly been arranged in the region of Inari but in all the three Sami languages of Finland: Skolt Sami, Inari Sami and North Sami. The Crossing Library operates in the new Sami Cultural Centre Sajos in Inari. In Sajos, there is also the library of the village of Inari, run by a Sami librarian who knows the Sami language. 107
